Developmental Program
Youth Developmental Ages 6-11
Teens and Adults Developmental 11+
Developmental Classes are anyone with little to no experience Fencing. This program offers two age groups. Youth ages 6-11 and Teen plus adults aged 11+.
You may be trying out the sport for the first time. Looking to build on the core techniques and tactics of fencing or even just having fun while getting some exercise stabbing their friends. Maybe they are signed up by their parents.
- Build core technical skill
- Improve hand, leg foot coordination
- Introduction to Fencing rules and tactics
Requirements
Members are expected to attend classes in general athletic wear (think runners and t shirts). No CROCs!
Fencing gear is free to borrow in class.
They must have an active membership with Big Bear Fencing.
Schedule
Our developmental members have access to their choice of our fundamental classes that are run throughout the week. They are also free to join in during our open fencing times.
Your class schedule is not locked. You may change nights or times on the fly to best suit your schedule.

Cost
The cost of our developmental program is either
Basic Membership for $125/month (up to one group classes a week)
Full membership $169/month (unlimited group classes a week and open fencing)
Private lessons
Are optional but recommended for devleopment.
$30 per 20 minute lesson
Program Structure
This Beginner fencing program consists of up to 2 group class per week, which are 1 hour long each.
It is recommended that for kids who know they want to become competitive fencers that you begin to take private fencing lessons.
Each group lesson in this Developmental level fencing class starts with a warm up, in which our coaches implement elements of a game depending of the age of the class. After warming up, the fencers will work on different elements of technique, drills, foot and hand work, target work, work in pairs and of course fence using the electric equipment.

Competitive
Youth Competitive Ages 6-11
Teens and Adults Competitive Ages 11+
Our competitive program is designed for fencers who wish to focus on improving their skills with the long term goal of tournament participation and competitive success.
Fencers join this group they will gain access to our competitive classes as well as the other program benefits.
fencers must satisfy our program expectations to remain eligible for the program.
Requirements
Competitive Fencers are expected to own their own Epee(fencing sword) and fencing pants.
Intent and effort are what is important for this program. Newer fencers are allowed but they must satisfy the same requirements as more senior fencers.
Competitive Program Expectations
- Participate in at least two nights of fencing a week
- Own their own epee and fencing pants and be working towards acquiring the rest of their own gear.
- Aim for at least 1 hour of open bouting outside of regular classes per week.
- Have current and valid OFA/CFF competitive license or equivalent.
- Regularily take private lessons every month.
- Join one footwork class a week or commit to an equivalent footwork training plan.
- Some exemptions are possible at coach discretion

Program Structure
This Competitive fencing program consists of Group Classes, Footwork/Bladework Classes, Controlled Bouting, Open Fencing and Private lessons.
Competitive Members are expected to book private lessons and maintain the other program expectations. Our program eligibility requirements force the kids to have a balanced training plan, with a long term focus on growth.

Parent Fencing
Our parent group is one of our newest programs. Many of you have your kids already enrolled in our program. We also found that some of you signed them up because you were interested in fencing for yourself. Others even sit in your cars during your kids classes. We want to give you a spot to participate alongside your kids.
Learn more about the sport to help your kids, have fun, get some exercise or even just use your time a little more efficiently.
Plus we offer discounted memberships for anyone in this group.
Requirements
One of more of your kids must be currently enrolled in our developmental or competitive programs.
Gear is provided, although we require you to own your own epee by your third month in the program.
Schedule
Parents may join our parent or teen+ classes , and are welcome to participate in any open fencing time slots.
Cost
This program costs $90/month.

Private Lessons
Private fencing lessons are for fencers at any level; however, the higher the fencer’s ability, the more private lessons he or she should take. A private lesson is completely tailored to the fencer’s skills and needs.
Cost
Lessons Cost $30/20 minute lesson
Schedule
Private lessons are scheduled ahead of time at our members and coaches availability.
It is expected that you show up 15 minutes early to warm up and be ready for your lesson.

School Program

Our school fencing program offers a sport fencing educational unit as a part of Health & Physical Education.
The program can work around your needs. We can modify, program length, class times, locations, curriculum, gear and many more aspects to suit your needs.

Cost
The cost for each program depends on the duration and wishes and requirements for each school. We ask that you reach out to discuss.
Schedule
We have availability throughout the day to school setup and run programs.
Duration
Programs can be as short as one day, or can be for a longer period of time.

Camps run during March Break and a few select weeks in July and August.
